Andrew (Andy) Levin was a U.S. Democratic Party nominee for 13th District Michigan Senate seat and is currently serving as Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm Deputy Director for the Michigan Department of Economic and Labor Growth. He is also the son of U.S. House of Representatives Sander Levin and the nephew of U.S. Senate Carl Levin.

Biography Levin grew up in Berkley, Michigan attending Berkley High School, graduating in 1978. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts from Williams College in Massachusetts in 1982, and received a Master of Arts (postgraduate) from the University of Michigan in 1990. He also holds a law degree from Harvard Law School.

Levin began his career as an advocate for nursing home workers in Michigan, and also worked for the AFL-CIO.

2006 Election Levin ran unsuccessfully for the 13th District Senate Seat in Oakland County, Michigan, losing the election to former Michigan House of Representatives John Pappageorge. The race was close with Pappageorge edging out Levin by only 776 votes.

It was reported that Levin was hurt both by the fact that he had recently moved back to the Detroit, Michigan area from Washington, DC and a perceived nepotism on behalf of some voters. Some speculation centered around whether U.S. Green Party candidate Kyle McBee share of the vote can be attributed to a left-leaning protest vote for these reasons.

2008 Election There has been some speculation that Levin will run for Congress in the Michigan's 9th congressional district against incumbent Joe Knollenberg. As of yet, Levin has not confirmed, explaining to the Detroit News that "if and when I decide to run for office again, I will let the press and public know myself."

Former Michigan Lottery Commissioner Gary Peters (Michigan politician) has announced that he will run against Knollenberg in 2008.Nancy Skinner who ran unsuccessfully against Knollenberg in 2006, has also been reportedly considering a run for the Democratic nomination.
